FAQ

Have the Downtown YMCA  and YWCA buildings been sold?
Yes, the Park Board of the City of Spokane has agreed to purchase the Downtown YMCA property and SRM Development has purchased the YWCA building.  They are both currently held in escrow.  At this time, we do not know the future plans for the buildings.

Where is the new Central Y going to be located?
The new Central YMCA/YWCA will be at 930 N. Monroe, (the site of the former Big Brothers Big Sisters Bingo Hall) just northwest of our current locations.

Where is the new North Y going to be located?
The new North YMCA/YWCA will be at 10727 N. Newport Highway where Nevada intersects with Hwy 2.

Is the YMCA of the Inland Northwest merging with the YWCA of Spokane?
No. The YMCA and the YWCA are entering into a collaboration and co-location to better serve all of Spokane County.  Each organization will retain its unique mission, programs, and administration. Together we will strengthen existing programs, and create new ones.  The North Y will house office space for the YWCA's program outreach.  This collaborative relationship will allow each organization to serve more people in need of vital services and increase our combined community outreach to serve 70,000 Spokane area residents, or one in six people.

When will the capital campaign begin?
The capital campaign is well underway. Support is coming from every sector: Business, Foundations, Government, Individuals, Property Sales Proceeds and Alternate Funding sources.  The Community Campaign is scheduled to launch publicly in Spring 2008.

When is ground breaking planned and when will Central and North open?
Construction is planned to begin in Fall 2007 for Central and Spring 2008 for North with the Grand Openings for both locations in Spring 2009.

Will there be interruption of service during construction of the new facilities?
No. A contingency of sale of the YMCA and YWCA buildings is to allow time to complete construction to provide a seamless transition of service to the new facilities.

Will the new buildings be environmentally responsible?
Yes, each building will be environmentally sensitive and will be built to Silver Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standards. LEED is the national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings by minimizing environmental impact and maximizing energy efficiencies.
